The Future is Bright for Amy as she progresses from Monaghan Institute to Ulster University this September

Amy Monahan, who recently completed the QQI Level 5 Tourism & Travel course at Monaghan Institute, reflects on her experience studying at MI this year and discusses her progression plans for September.

“I have just completed the QQI Level 5 Tourism and Travel course in Monaghan Institute. After my Leaving Certificate last June, I had been offered a Level 8 Degree course in Hospitality in TU Dublin however I wasn’t sure if I wanted to commit to a four-year degree, not knowing if I was fully interested in the course. I decided to come to MI to study a one-year course in Tourism and Travel. I was attracted to MI because of the facilities and modern building.

During the year we studied a wide range of tourism specific modules and generic modules. My favourite module was Tourism Principles and Practice because we looked at different tourism destinations, tourism in developing countries and the impact of tourism on the economy.

There are many different career avenues now open to us for example working within hotels, tourist attractions, within event management or a as cabin crew. I am delighted I got to learn more about these career paths.

As a result of this course in MI I have decided to further study Tourism and I have been offered a Level 8 Degree course in Ulster University studying International Travel and Tourism Management which I start in September. Monaghan Institute definitely helped me make this decision between the guidance counsellor and tutors helping with UCAS applications and updating us on college news.

I couldn’t recommend Monaghan Institute enough to students this September. There are smaller class sizes allowing closer contact with tutors. We had a manageable timetable which allowed me to continue with my part-time job. We got help with assignment writing and referencing which will stand to me as I continue with my studies. I gained confidence through role plays and presentations.

I would highly recommend the Tourism and Travel course in Monaghan Institute especially to anyone unsure of committing to a 4-year course. It allowed me to choose which specific area within Tourism to continue to study and I am looking forward to now continuing my education path in Tourism.”

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Amy all the best with her continued studies and future career. If you are interested in applying for the Travel and Tourism, or any of the other courses in Monaghan Institute, applications are currently open.
