Monaghan Institute Business graduate progresses to NUIM to study International Business

Hear from Monaghan Institute’s QQI Level 5 Graduate Sarah Chifor who is currently studying an honours degree in International Business at the National College of Ireland Maynooth

“I am really enjoying studying International Business in NUIM so far. However, the fact that it is delivered online can sometimes be a struggle. It would be nice to gain the full college experience.

As a graduate of the QQI L5 Business course in Monaghan Institute, I feel like I have had a very easy transition into the university itself as I had a great foundation knowledge of important Business applications such as the Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle, and Office Programmes, such as Word and especially EXCEL. I had a group assignment recently using Excel and I was happy to take on the lead role in helping and supporting my group’s IT skills.

I think that the one-to-one attention I received from tutors at Monaghan Institute was helpful for me because I could ask a lot of questions about learning outcomes, something that you cannot do as easily at University.

The modules I studied at MI such as Business Administration, Accounting and Customer Service have helped me enormously in my first year in Maynooth and even learning how to reference and structure assignments has been such a help. In MI, we also completed a Text Production module, and I have noticed that I can type a lot faster than my colleagues.

I will forever be grateful that I attended Monaghan Institute to complete the L5 Business award as I formed great friendships there, and the fact that I achieved a Distinction overall looks excellent on my CV, particularly, after achieving mediocre CAO points in my Leaving Certificate”.

Monaghan Institute’s Business courses aims to equip both school leavers and mature applicants with the necessary business skills and a thorough knowledge of the computer application packages used in the modern office, as well as preparing learners for further study in related areas. It also suits learners who wish to defer their college place for a year, after completing their Leaving Certificate.
