Health Services Skills course at Monaghan Institute
If you wish to pursue a profession as a Health Service Skills worker, then this is the course for you. The course also welcomes those who are already employed in a caring role and wish to gain a recognised QQI Level 5 qualification.
Staff at Monaghan Institute focus on providing the necessary skills and knowledge across a range of care settings, working with a variety of age groups. The modern facilities in the college support students in attaining the highest standards of training in healthcare. The fully equipped nursing practical room in Monaghan Institute provides a hospital-like setting, where skills can be practised and then applied to realistic situations.
Successful participants will receive a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills. This qualification is recognised by the Health Service Executive and the Department of Health for Healthcare Assistants, enabling direct entry into employment, as a healthcare assistant or Special Care Assistant. In addition, you will also receive training and certification in First Aid Response (FAR) and patient handling, both a requirement for employment in the care field.
Alternatively, if you would like to consider progression to third level studies, the Health Service Skills course is recognised for entry into related degree programmes at Institutes of Technology/universities.
Two former students give you their view on the Health Service Skills course:
“I was able to fulfil my ambition to work in the field of Health Care. I am currently employed locally as a Health Care Assistant. I attribute my success to the amazing support and guidance I received during my time in Monaghan Institute”
“I am now going into the third year of a degree course in Social Care at DkIT. Monaghan Institute has given me the qualification that was needed and the confidence to continue in education”.
