Progression to Third Level made possible for Megan after one year of study at Monaghan Institute
Megan Mohan who graduated from Monaghan Institute last May with a QQI Level 5 award in Health Service Skills, reflects on her journey from MI to Athlone Institute of Technology.
“Before entering Monaghan Institute I completed the LCA in secondary school. Following this I decided to do a PLC course in the Institute, in Health Service Skills. As well as studying a range of modules, we had an opportunity to gain Work Experience in an area of our own choice. I completed mine in an Alzheimer’s day unit and a Nursing Home. In both places I gained considerable experience. These opportunities consolidated my decision to pursue a career in Social Care. I completed the Level 5 Health Service Skills course and I have now progressed to Athlone Institute of Technology, to study Level 7 in Social Care. I would highly recommend Monaghan Institute, the tutors were very helpful and supportive and they were always there to help us and guide us in the right direction.”
Progression Opportunities:
The Health Service Skills programme at Monaghan Institute provides opportunities for graduates to progress onto many careers in the Caring and Special Needs fields. Like Megan, graduates may also progress to degree courses in Social Care and Social Science.
