Local Writer, Mark McNally, visits Monaghan Institute

Recently, Monaghan Institute welcomed local writer, Mark McNally to speak to students about his experience as a playwright for the screen.

In the past, Mark has worked with well-known companies such as Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen and Wild Atlantic Pictures. He shared his excitement for his upcoming movie In the Land of Saints and Sinners, starring Liam Neeson and Geraldine Hughes. The picture was filmed during in Donegal during the summer months of 2022 and is set to be released in the near future.

In addition to this Mark shared his stories and experiences with students which were both entertaining and insightful. He described himself as always having had a passion for storytelling and film so when he completed school, he went to Queens University, Belfast, where he got serious about writing for the screen and began to produce scripts to submit to different writing competitions throughout the country.

Mark ended his visit by sharing advice for students considering a career in writing. Mark’s visit was enlightening and Arts and Digital Media students at Monaghan Institute were very grateful to have the opportunity to listen to and speak with Mark.
