Nicole Wilson

“After leaving school, I was set on going to St Angela’s in Sligo to study Home Economics and Biology. As I did not achieve the Leaving Certificate points required, I chose to take the year out and attend Monaghan Institute. After speaking with the guidance counsellor in Monaghan Institute, I discovered that I could complete the APT programme to help me progress onto the course in Sligo.

In Monaghan Institute, I completed the Early Childcare course with SNA alongside the APT programme with St Angela’s college. I had the opportunity to experience on-site visits, participated in lectures and practical labs in St Angela’s. This allowed me to gain an insight into the course I wanted to progress into. Completing my year in Monaghan Institute greatly benefited me as I developed my knowledge of independent study, how to write assignments, complete referencing, meet deadlines and balance workload. I received a QQI Level 5 and I received my offer to progress onto the Home Economics and Biology in Sligo. From going to Monaghan Institute, I felt more prepared to progress into third level. Taking the year out after school was the best decision I made as I confidence, knowledge, and many skills.”
