Work Placements
Many of our courses have a work placement module where our students go into local employment and receive valuable work experience. This work experience element of our courses keeps our students and staff attuned to the realities of modern business/industry/commerce in Co Monaghan and the north east region. Feedback has shown that this experience is both beneficial to employers and students alike.
Skills to Advance and Evening Training Opportunities

This programme provides flexible learning opportunities for employees who wish to update their skills, take on new responsibilities, or progress within their organisation. Training is offered across a wide range of areas — including leadership, management, digital skills, customer service, and sector-specific upskilling — with many courses delivered through convenient evening or blended formats to suit those already in employment.
CMETB’s Employer Services team works directly with employers to identify skills gaps and tailor training solutions that align with business goals. Traineeships
The National Traineeship programme is an occupational skills development programme which combines formal training with Cavan and Monaghan ETB and workplace coaching with an employer. The training content and occupational standards for traineeships are developed in consultation with employers, trade unions, regulatory bodies and interest groups. The programmes are aimed at people who will enter occupations that entail significant skills requirements which are best acquired through a combination of alternating periods of on and off the job training.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeship is the recognised means by which people are trained to become craftspeople in Ireland. Apprenticeship is a demand-driven, workplace and classroom, educational and training programme for employed people aimed at developing the skills of the apprentice to meet the needs of industry and the labour market. The Curriculum for each apprenticeship programme is based on uniform, pre-specified standards which are agreed and determined by industry. On successful completion of an apprenticeship, a QQI Advanced Certificate is awarded and this is recognised internationally as the requirement for craftsperson status.
