This one-year course aims to equip learners with the scientific and practical knowledge and skills to work in a laboratory in a healthcare setting. Learners will develop practical laboratory skills and carry out a range of laboratory and scientific tests that will support the theory and scientific knowledge of the modules they study.
What will you study?
Learners will gain a good foundation in Biology and Chemistry in our state-of-the-art science laboratory. They will undertake modules in Microbiology, Infection Prevention and Control and Medical Terminology which are essential for work in a medical/healthcare setting. Many graduates progress from this programme to university to study Biomedical Science or other Science related courses at degree level.

Food Science studies the chemical, biological and physical properties of food in relation to manufacturing and the storage of food products, the causes of food deterioration and the concepts underlying food processing.

This one-year course is suitable for learners who are interested in preparing for a career as a food scientist and/or in progression to third level education in the food, science or agriculture sectors.
This programme aims to equip learners with the scientific and practical knowledge and skills to work in a laboratory in the food industry. Learners will develop practical laboratory skills and carry out a range of laboratory and scientific tests that will support the theory and scientific knowledge of the modules they study.
What will you study?
The Food Science and Nutrition course will focus on Food Chemistry and Nutrition while also covering the other science disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology. All the science modules have a considerable proportion of practical work in them, which the learner will undertake in our modern science laboratory.
Learners will be required to undertake work experience during the course of the year, which is an exciting opportunity for them to put into practice the laboratory skills they will have developed in college.
Guest speakers are invited to contribute to the course and field trips are also undertaken.

Horticulture is the art and science of growing plants for a wide variety of reasons, such as food production, landscape and garden design, environmental repair and restoration, sports turf management, the production of medicines and therapeutic plants etc. ‘Imagine if trees gave off Wi-Fi signals. We would be planting so many trees and we’d probably save the planet. Too bad they only produce the oxygen we breathe’.

This course is designed to provide training for those interested in all aspects of horticulture. It equips learners with the scientific concepts, practical knowledge and skills to work in various areas of horticulture – from growing your own fruit and vegetables to designing and planting a prize winning garden.
