Level 5 PLC Access Course
The PLC Access course is aimed at learners coming directly from a Youthreach or Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) course. This bridging programme allows learners to experience college life in Monaghan Institute in a supported environment, while completing Level 4 and 5 modules. Learners can sample the course areas they are interested in progressing to in Monaghan Institute. Learners may be entitled to a training allowance and supports including access to a laptop to help them complete the Access course. The Access course is designed to find the most suitable course for you while developing your academic skills.

The PLC Access Course provides learners with a range of skills and the opportunity to experience college life, to gain certification and to build confidence to see them successfully progress on to their desired Level 5 programme.
Learners on the course will study Word Processing, Customer Service and Communications at QQI Level 5 and Teamworking at QQI Level 4. Learners will also complete life skills classes such as culinary skills in the kitchen and will have access to a counsellor, who will provide information and support them in their transition to college.
In Term one learners link up with Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre to try out and complete awards in; Kayaking, Canoeing, Orienteering, Hill Walking and Leave No Trace. This gives learners a taste of work in the field of outdoor pursuits.
Learners will also sample courses in Monaghan Institute. They will get the opportunity to choose courses and subjects that interest them and sample these modules throughout the academic year. Learners will also get the chance to study and achieve certification in First Aid and Manual Handling.
