The overall aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competence to work effectively and efficiently in the role as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

If you wish to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy, then you have chosen the steppingstone which will enable you to consolidate your decision to either progress to a degree programme or seek employment. We focus on developing your understanding of the role of the Occupational Therapy Assistant. We aim to facilitate you acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to assist the Occupational Therapist in the implementation of therapeutic programmes with a variety of age groups.
What will you study?
You will study a range of Modules, both Health Care and Occupational Therapy related in a state-of-the-art facility in Monaghan Institute. An integral part of the course is to provide you with an opportunity to engage in Work Experience in the field of Occupational Therapy. You will have a Work Experience allocation each week, with an additional block placement of three weeks. This will allow you to see the theory learned in the classroom in practice in the Occupational Therapy setting. Furthermore, it will develop your vocational language and you will observe the work of the multidisciplinary team. On completion of the course, you with not only have acquired the skills and knowledge but Work Experience, all necessary to assist you in progression or employment.

If you wish to pursue a profession as a health service worker, then this is the course for you. We focus on providing the necessary skills and knowledge required across a range of care settings with a variety of age groups. The course welcomes those who are already employed in a caring role, and require the necessary qualifications.
What will you study?
You will study several modules directly related to the field of health care. The appropriate interpersonal & interactive skills to work as a member of the interdisciplinary team will also be explored. An integral part of this course is work experience, one day per week, with a further three weeks allocated as a block placement to enable learners to gain experience in their chosen field and to enhance job prospects.
