This course is designed to equip both school leavers and mature applicants with necessary business skills and a thorough knowledge of the computer application packages used in the modern office, as well as preparing learners for further study in related areas. It also suits learners who wish to defer their college place for a year and acquire good IT skills to assist them in their future studies.

The holder of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Business Administration may progress to a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in IT & Business Management, to further study at Institutes of Technology/Universities or to employment in office administration, customer relations, accounting, IT or related business areas.

BSA2 - Level 6 Advanced Certificate in IT & Business Management

The Advanced IT & Business Management course is designed to equip the learner with a superior level of computing skills and a detailed knowledge of practices and processes relating to the business environment. Successful participants will receive a QQI Level 6 Certificate in Business.

Applicants for this Advanced Certificate course must have already successfully obtained a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Business Administration, Business Studies, eBusiness, Information Processing or equivalent. Entry may be subject to interview.

Career Options | Progression

Holders of a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Business may progress to further study at Institutes of Technology/Universities. Transfer arrangements exist with Dundalk IT, where you may progress to year two of the Business Studies degree programme, if you meet the entry requirements. In addition, you will have excellent career prospects in administration, IT or related business areas.

BSA3 - Level 5 Pharmacy Counter Assistant

This course is designed to equip learners with relevant knowledge and experience to work as a pharmacy counter assistant. Work in this industry varies from dispensing over the counter medications, helping clients choose medical aids and appliances to demonstrating and selling cosmetics, perfumes etc. As well as a QQI qualification, learners complete the Irish Pharmacy Union’s Medicines Counter Assistant award.

Emphasis is placed on questioning skills, product knowledge and appropriate referral.

- Level 5 Accounting Technician Praktikum

Thinking about a career in Accountancy? Earn while you learn with the Accounting Technician Praktikum, delivered this September by Accounting Technicians Ireland in conjunction with CMETB and Monaghan Institute. If you are a school-leaver or a mature student considering a career in Accountancy, then this programme could be the perfect route for you. You will work with a local business or practice four days a week, and study at a local college one day a week.

You’ll earn while you learn, and your tuition will be paid by the State. You’ll emerge from the programme in two years’ time, with a nationally and internationally recognised qualification, solid work experience, and the opportunity to become a fully qualified Chartered Accountant.

Entry Requirements & Application Form

Recent School Leavers

Participants will be recent school-leavers who have completed the Leaving Certificate or mature learners and employees who wish to work in a finance role. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age on or before 1st July in the year of entry. Applicants must have Leaving Certificate-standard English and Maths at ordinary level and a minimum of 300 CAO points. Note: Study of Accountancy at Leaving Certificate level is not a requirement.

Mature Students

For mature students (over 23) a QQI Level 5 qualification and prior related experience will be taken into consideration. Participants commence with a two-year work contract, with wages paid by the employer. It is at the employer’s discretion to enhance the entry criteria for selection.

Certification

ATI Accounting Technician – Participants graduate as fully qualified Accounting Technicians. Accounting Technicians are qualified accounting professionals employed throughout all levels of finance across the public sector, industry, private accountancy practices and self-employment.

Duration

The Accounting Technician Praktikum is a two-year programme which combines ‘on-the-job’ work experience with academic study. The Diploma for Accounting Technicians is awarded upon successful completion of the programme.

Course Structure

Participants will work at their employer’s office four days a week, and attend classes at a local college one day a week. They are also given three weeks’ study leave each year. Large and small accountancy practices, service firms and industry employers around the country have already committed to taking on school-leavers and mature learners under the programme.

Career Options

Successful graduates will also receive generous exemptions on Chartered Accountants Ireland’s study programmes, so that they can continue to progress their career within the profession. So by choosing the Apprenticeship route, they have the opportunity to become fully qualified Chartered Accountants in just five years.
